Restoring historical properties presents both unique and costly challenges. Contractors must use materials and methods that were used during the period when the building and fixtures were created wherever possible, or custom fabricate replications which involve significant research, detail, time, and exacting craftsmanship. Insuring reconstruction work on a historic property is also a challenge, as there are often environmental hazards on the property that need to be remediated.
