Historic Properties – A Window Through Time

ABI Insurance is happy to announce the grand opening of Hotel Indigo Spokane!  Listed on the National Historic Registry, this gorgeous building from 1911 boasts modern amenities within a lovingly restored historic hotel.

Historic Properties are the crown jewels in a city’s historic district.  They reflect the unique character and culture of their surrounding communities and give us a window to see into the city’s past.  Buildings on the Historical registry reflect an intense commitment and investment.  Insurance for those buildings is no easy task, as the listing on the historic registry comes with exacting standards for replacement and reconstruction.  After a loss, the building and interior must be rebuilt with the same or equal materials, workmanship, and architectural features.  This often means finding specialized contractors that perform historic restoration and reconstruction work, and sometimes hand fabricating or custom fabricating furniture and fixtures to keep the replications as true to the original as possible.  Standard property policies may not pay for the additional costs associated with such meticulous attention to historic detail, nor will they cover the Historic Tax Credit Recapture risk.
