In September, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance awarded ABI Insurance a 2024 Make More Happen Award for its volunteerism with Meals on Wheels People, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors and other at-risk populations.
The initial award included a donation of $5,000 for Meals on Wheels People. The award doubled to $10,000 when community supporters voted online to help the agency reach the required 500 votes. Community support was outstanding. The agency received the required votes in less than 72 hours and when voting closed in October over 1200 votes were cast for ABI Insurance.
Meals on Wheels People currently produce 5,800 meals every day which are delivered to homebound seniors and dining centers throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties in Oregon and Washington. The $10,000 donation will be used towards the Meals on Wheels People’s homebound outreach, continuing to serve those who visit their dining center, and replacing equipment and supplies in their commercial kitchen.
“We are honored and incredibly grateful for being awarded the 2024 Make More Happen Award so we can continue to help our community,” said Jim Hisatomi, president of ABI Insurance. “Meals on Wheels People has had a significant impact in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, and we are thrilled to double the donation with community support.”
Each November, Meals on Wheels People ask volunteers to work shifts at local grocery stores during Donate Dinner, an event that encourages shoppers to donate a meal to homebound seniors facing food insecurity.
In 2023 ABI Insurance team members helped fill the need by volunteering to staff shifts at local markets, handing out flyers and encouraging shoppers to donate, making a significant impact on the number of dinners donated and raising awareness for Meals on Wheels People. The agency will again support Donate Dinner in 2024 by handing out flyers at local grocery stores.
